Event Details

Maryland Scholastic State Team Championship

March 3rd, 2007, Towson University

Teams consist of four players from the same school. One player per team in the HS and MS sections can be from a lower grade at the same school. Each round, teams play a match against another team with the team scoring the most points being the winner of the match. Standings will be by match points. Note that schools will be limited to three teams per section. Extra players can play in the parallel individual Towson Scholastic tournament.

Four Championship Team Sections, trophies to top 10 teams in each section:

High School: grades 9-12 4SS, G/50
Middle School: grades 6-8, 4SS, G/50
Elementary: grades K-5 4SS, G/50
Primary: grades K-3 4SS, G/30
Plaques to all members of championship teams and top scoring players on each board.
Winner of each championship section will be the 2007 MD Match Format Team Champion.

Four Junior Varisity Team Sections, trophies to top 5 teams in each section:

High School (all players rated < 900): grades 9-12 4SS, G/30
Middle School (all players rated < 800): grades 6-8, 4SS, G/30
Elementary (all players rated < 600): grades K-5 4SS, G/30
Primary (all players rated < 400) : grades K-3 4SS, G/30
Plaques to top scoring player on each board.

Board order on a team will be in order of USCF ratings using the 3/07 ratings supplement. If requested, unrateds may play on any board. Otherwise, unrated players will play below all rated players. Teams from the same school will not be paired against each other unless there is no other way to pair the score group.
US Chess Federation membership is required. New USCF members can join the USCF at http://www.uschess.org before registering to get an ID number or join with their registration. All at-the-door USCF memberships will be $5 more. Free USCF memberships (for new USCF members) for one team per section are available for Title I schools. Team Entrance Fees: $60 if received by 2/10 (online or mailed), $80 if received by 2/27 (online or mailed), $100 online by 7pm on 3/2, or $120 at the door. Any at the door roster changes cost $10. All $30 less to Title I schools. All at-the-door registrations will receive 1st round ½ point bye. All online entries received before 7pm on 3/2 will be paired for the first round. Rounds: 1st round for all the sections starts @ 10:00 sharp. Note that pairings will be made Friday night, so players should be ready to play at their 1st round start time. Directions: Take the Baltimore Beltway I-695 toward Towson. Take exit 25, Charles Street, south. Proceed approximately 1.7 miles. Turn left on Towsontowne Blvd and proceed to the first light, turn right onto Osler drive, take first left and park in Union Parking Garage.
